Transfer Students

Austin College wants to help you figure out how best to choose courses which will assist you in graduating on time.  We have faculty mentors who will meet with you in person as soon as you are interested in exploring transferring to Austin College. Schedule your visit.  They can help advise you what classes are best to take before you transfer to Austin College while you are still at your 2-year college and help you understand how your credits will transfer to Austin College and apply to your degree here.

Courses which will help you graduate from Austin College regardless of major

• ENG 1302
• Foreign language through the third semester (2311)
• Statistics (MATH 1332 or MATH 1442) or Calculus I (MATH 2313)
• Science course with a lab
• Courses in different areas of the humanities and social sciences
• At least 2-3 courses in areas you are interested in pursuing for a major and minor

Additional recommendation for students interested in majoring in the sciences or pursuing a pre-health sciences curriculum.

• At least 4 semesters of majors level* science courses
  • Biology for Science Majors I/II, including associated labs (BIOL 1306/1307, BIOL 1406/1407)
  • Anatomy and Physiology I/II, including associated labs (BIOL 2301/2302, BIOL 2401/2402)
  • Environmental Biology, including associated labs (BIOL 2306, BIOL 2406)
  • Genetics, including any associated labs (BIOL 2316, BIOL 2416)
  • Microbiology for Science Majors, including associated labs (BIOL 2321, BIOL 2421
  • General Chemistry I/II, including associated labs (CHEM 1311/1312, CHEM 1411/1412)
  • Organic Chemistry I/II, including associated labs (CHEM 2323, 2325, CHEM 2423, 2425
  • University Physics: PHYS 2325/2326, PHYS 2425/2426

*The one exception is algebra based physics, including any associated labs (PHYS 1301/1302; PHYS 1410/1402) for students interested in majoring in anything other than physics.

As you consider transferring from your current institution, you will have the assistance of the Office of Admission and a faculty mentor to guide you in the process.

Your counselor in the Office of Admission will be able to provide you a preliminary evaluation of how your credits will transfer and discuss the various academic pathways available to you at Austin College. Upon completion of your application for admission and receipt of your official college transcripts, the Registrar's Office will provide you an official transfer equivalency report.

Then you will have a faculty mentor assigned to you to help maximize the many experiential learning opportunities available to you and to point you toward post-graduate success.

We encourage you to set a time to visit campus or connect with our transfer counselor to begin the conversation about making Austin College your new community.

• A maximum of 68 credit hours may be transferred from accredited two-year or four-year institutions consistent with the academic objectives of Austin College.
• Credits presented from other institutions in which the student earns a grade of C or higher will be converted to course credit units at the rate of four semester hours equal to one Austin College credit.
• No official credit evaluation can be offered until official transcripts from all colleges attended have been submitted to the Office of Admission. An evaluation of transferable credits and determination of subsequent requirements for graduation from Austin College can be made prior to matriculation through the Office of the Registrar.

A successful transition for transfer students starts with a strong orientation. Your orientation experience at AC includes meeting with current transfer student leaders, key support staff, as well as your faculty mentor. At Austin College, academic advising takes on a whole new dimension. Our faculty serve as true mentors to our students. As a transfer student, you will have a faculty mentor to help maximize the many experiential learning opportunities available to you and to point you toward post graduate success.
